    Module 3: Mastering Location Pages

How to capture search traffic from neighboring cities without creating spammy duplicate content.

If your business is located in Valencia, but you also serve Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, and Castaic, how do you show up when someone in Castaic searches for your services? The answer is high-quality location pages.

    The Location Page Problem

Google's local search algorithm is heavily influenced by proximity. If your physical address is in Valencia, it's naturally harder to rank in the local map pack for a search originating in Castaic, even if it's only 10 minutes away.

To combat this, businesses often try to create content targeting those neighboring areas. However, doing this incorrectly can actually harm your site's overall SEO performance.

What Not to Do (Doorway Pages)

In the past, the standard SEO tactic was to create 50 different pages, one for every city in a 30-mile radius, and just find-and-replace the city name.

    For example:

    • /plumber-valencia
    • /plumber-canyon-country
    • /plumber-newhall

If the content on these pages is identical except for the city name, Google considers them Doorway Pages. This is a violation of Google's spam policies and can lead to your pages being ignored or your site being penalized.

    The Duplicate Content Risk

Never copy and paste your homepage or main service page and just change the city name. If you don't have enough unique things to say about a specific location, you shouldn't build a dedicated page for it yet.

How to Build High-Quality Location Pages

To make a location page rank, it needs to provide unique value to a user in that specific area. Here is how to structure a location page that Google loves:

    1. Hyper-Local Proof of Work

The easiest way to make a page unique is to talk about the actual work you've done in that city.

    • Include a gallery of past projects completed in that specific area.
    • Write a short case study about a customer you helped in that town.
    • Embed Google reviews from customers who live in that location.

    2. Localized Content and Nuance

Does the service differ slightly in this area? For example, if you are a landscaper, maybe a specific neighborhood has different HOA rules, or a certain part of town has different soil types. Mentioning these hyper-local details proves to Google (and the user) that you actually know the area.

    3. Clear Contact & Routing Information

Explain how you serve them. Do you charge a travel fee? How quickly can you get there?

Example: "We are based in Valencia, but our trucks are frequently in Canyon Country. We can typically reach homes near Sand Canyon within 45 minutes for emergency calls."

    4. Internal Linking

Don't orphan your location pages. Link to them from your main "Areas We Serve" page, and from the footer of your website. Additionally, link from the location page back to your core service pages.

    Action Items

    Location Page Action Steps

    • Audit Existing Pages

Check your site for doorway pages. If you have 10 identical location pages, consolidate them or rewrite them to be unique.

    • Gather Local Proof

Collect photos, reviews, and case studies specific to the top 3 neighboring cities you want to target.

    • Build an 'Areas We Serve' Hub

Create a main page that lists all the areas you serve, and link out to your detailed, unique location pages from there.

    Ready for Module 4?

Now that you have your service pages and location pages built, it's time to talk about the content that builds authority: the blog.
